EV Charger Installation in Pakenham
Charge your electric car at home overnight. Cardinia Electrical installs home EV chargers in Pakenham, Officer, Beaconsfield, Nar Nar Goon and surrounding suburbs, and we are an Evnex certified installer.
Why install a home EV charger?
You can charge an electric car from a normal power point, but it is slow, adding roughly 10 to 15 km of range for every hour on charge. A wall-mounted 7 kW charger on a standard single phase home adds around 40 km per hour, so the car is full by morning even after a long day of driving.
A dedicated charger also runs on its own circuit with its own protection, so you are not leaning on a power point and extension lead for hours every night.
Are you an Evnex certified installer?
Yes. Cardinia Electrical is an Evnex certified installer, so we can supply and install Evnex chargers and set them up properly for your car and your home. We also install other popular brands, including the Tesla Wall Connector, if you already have a charger in mind.
Will my switchboard handle an EV charger?
Before we quote, we look at your switchboard, main switch and power supply to make sure they can take the extra load. Most homes only need a new dedicated circuit and safety switch for the charger. Older switchboards with ceramic fuses, or boards with no spare room, may need upgrading first.
Smart charger or standard charger?
A standard charger is simple and cheaper: plug in and it charges. A smart charger connects to an app, so you can schedule charging for cheaper off-peak rates, track how much power the car is using, and soak up spare power from your solar panels during the day. We will talk through how you drive and charge so you only pay for the features you will use.
Single phase or three phase?
Most Pakenham homes are single phase, which suits chargers up to about 7 kW and is plenty for overnight charging. If your property has three phase power, a faster charger of up to 22 kW is possible, depending on what your car can accept.
What does the installation involve?
Every job follows the same steps, so there are no surprises:
- A site visit to check your switchboard and the best spot for the charger
- A free quote before any work starts
- A dedicated circuit and safety switch run from your switchboard to the charger
- Mounting, testing and setting up the charger, including the app for smart chargers
- A Certificate of Electrical Safety once the job is complete
